Lofoten through the year
Every season is its own experience
Lofoten is one of very few places in the world where all four seasons offer spectacular, unique natural experiences. M/S Anne Bro sails year-round.
The magic of the midnight sun
June · July · August
Summer in Lofoten is phenomenal — and "midnight" means nothing here. The sun never touches the horizon in June and July, and golden hour lasts for hours on end. Sailing with Anne Bro at 11 pm under a sun that will not yield is an experience that stays with you.
This is also peak season for visitors from around the world. Temperatures of 15–20°C, calm fjords and light that paints the mountains in warm colours. Day trips are popular for families, friend groups and photographers.
- 🌞 Midnight sun — the sun never sets (Jun–Jul)
- 📸 Photographers' favourite light — golden hour from 8 pm to 2 am
- 🌊 Calmest seas and mildest weather
- 👨👩👧 Suitable for families and all ages
- 🔥 Peak season — book early
Northern lights season
September · October · November · December · January · February · March
From late August, darkness returns to Lofoten — and with the darkness comes the aurora. September is a special month: still relatively mild weather, but enough darkness for northern lights to be visible. It is the best combination.
Experiencing the northern lights from the sea — aboard a hundred-year-old vessel — is something entirely different from standing on shore and looking up. Anne Bro can take you to places with no light pollution, and turn to face the darkness towards the best conditions.
- 🟢 Northern lights — typically visible Sep to Mar
- ⭐ Unparalleled starry sky
- 🧥 Cold, but the crew keeps you warm
- 🤿 Lower activity level — more intimate experience
- 💡 Low light pollution in the fjords
Lofoten's quiet gift
April · May
Spring Lofoten is much-overlooked — and strikingly beautiful. Snow melts from the mountains, the light grows stronger by the day and the fjords are usually calm. It is not yet peak season, so you share Anne Bro with fewer guests.
In late May the midnight sun begins to return. May is a magnificent month for those who want to experience the transition — from the darkness of aurora season to the endless light of summer.
- 🌸 Few tourists — more space and calm
- 🏔️ Snow-capped mountains meet blue sea
- 🌅 Midnight sun begins in May
- 🦅 White-tailed eagles and seabirds very visible
- 💰 Lower demand — easier to book
